The John Gilbert at Worsley was a design only project for the locals division of Greene King. The development brief was to open up all areas and make every area an inviting space to be in, and to eliminate the bottle neck by the main entrance doors.

By removing a very large chimney breast, four central columns and the access to the gents toilet in the basement, we have managed to greatly improve on visibility throughout the site. The carvery unit was repositioned to help eliminate the bottle neck around the main entrance and the ladies toilets were moved down into the basement and a new access staircase was formed.

With the careful use of floor finishes, seating zones, lighting, and music the space appeals to all customers throughout the day, but can “party up” in the evenings and weekends.
